SUP Wise Learn To Stand Up Paddle Enclosed Flat Water Lev1
The enclosed flat waters location is the first step in learning to stand up paddle to get you paddling with confidence and ease. You will learn correct paddle stroke technique, balance and control of the board as well as SUP safety and self rescue, suitable SUP equipment, etiquette and the SUP environment. This fun and practical hands on course is available through our ASI Accredited SUP Schools. All equipment is provided , a Certificate of Participation at completion.
Location: Amoreira and Odeceixe rivers, and Barragem da Bravura lake.
Topics covered: Environment & Safety • Understand the enclosed flat water environment • Identify SUP personal hazards • Identify SUP location hazards • Choose a safe SUP location • Identify self rescue techniques and when to apply them • Apply correct SUP flat water etiquette • Identify how to care for the enclosed flat water SUP environment
Equipment & Clothing • Choose suitable flat water board, leash and equipment Paddle Skills • Enter and exit the water correctly • Paddle in standing and kneeling position with balance and confidence • Identify correct paddling technique – 3 P’s – Position, Posture, Paddle • Identify the 5 phases of the paddling stroke • Demonstrate correct method to change direction • Demonstrate turning – back paddling left and right • Demonstrate how to stop, safe wipe-out and dismount • Understand how to perform a pivot turn
Entry requirements: Swim 50 metres (164 ft), without stopping

SUP Wise Learn To Stand Up Paddle Exposed Waters Lev2
The exposed waters course is for paddling in coastal locations or large inland bodies of water where there is potential for uneven, choppy waters and swell up to 2ft but no breaking waves.
It is the next step up from the Level 1 Enclosed Flat Water course. You will learn new safety location information and paddle techniques to stay balanced and negotiate the swells.
This fun and practical hands on course is available through our ASI Accredited SUP Schools. All equipment is provided, a Certificate of Participation at completion.
